Hyderabad: Police are going to go the extra mile to put smiles on the faces of those who are miserable about losing their cell phones, and repair the devices after they are tracked down. Since the beginning of the year, the police in Hyderabad have handed over about 500 mobile phones to their owners after locating the gadgets. The phones of various brands were tracked down and recovered by police teams before being handed over after a thorough verification.
‘When we receive a complaint about a lost cell phone, we place it on the detection and use of technology to locate the phone. “Once it is found, we return it to the owner after proper verification,” said Akram Baba, Detective Inspector, Bowenpally Police. All brands and specifications of the cell phones are tracked by the crime teams of different police stations.
Phones, according to police officers, are mostly lost due to the carelessness of the owners. ‘If there is theft or robbery, a case is registered immediately and the offender will be caught and the property recovered. In the event that the device is missing, the owner is asked to lodge a complaint on the Hawkeye application and the instrument is located, ‘said D Bhikshapathi, additional inspector, Amberpet police station.
Phones lost within the state are easily detected using technology, while it takes time if the device is removed from the state by the offender. “Nevertheless, every time the phone is switched on and a SIM card is inserted in the device, we learn the location immediately,” said another police officer.
Hawk Eye to help the citizens
Hawk Eye, the mobile application of the police in Telangana, helps people who lose their cell phones to lodge complaints without approaching a police station. Based on the IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity), the city police track down the cellphone and give it to the owner. It is important for the complainant to have the holder of the device or the receipt for evidence. Otherwise, it will be difficult to prove ownership of the cell phone, police officials said.
The Hawk Eye app also has the ability to cross the IMEI number of a cell phone, especially in the case of a used cell phone, and allows the user to know if the phone has been stolen. All you have to do is go to the Vehicle and Mobile Search link and enter the IMEI number. The app lets them know if the phone has been stolen or lost, and if so, the app allows the user to notify the police, who can then locate and return the owner.
