Siliguri: West Bengal Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday launched a new tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he was “deceiving lies to mislead voters” in the ballot box.
Banerjee, who addressed a rally here following her protest march on LPG price increase, said the prime minister had made many “empty” promises over the years and that people no longer trusted him.
She wanted to know ‘why the prime minister has not yet poured Rs 15 lakh into the bank accounts of every citizen, as he promised before Lok Sabha polls in 2014’.
‘You made a lot of empty promises. People will not accept your falsehood every day. We demand that you make LPG cylinder affordable for every citizen of the country. “You have made LPG cylinders inaccessible to the common man,” Banerjee said in her address.
The CM also said that Modi ‘should be ashamed of his habit of telling lies’.
‘He gives speeches in Bangla, but the text is always written in Gujarati and kept under a transparent glass sheet in front of him. “He just pretends to know Bangla well,” she said.
‘Your party has vandalized Vidyasagar’s bust. Your party has dishonored Birsa Munda. Your party has wrongly said Rabindranath Tagore was born in Santiniketan. It shows your in-depth knowledge of Bengal and its culture, ”she said.
Banerjee asked people to raise their voices against the ‘rebellious BJP’, ‘people of Bengal, who lived in peace and set aside the barriers of community and language, would be seriously threatened as a divisive force like the saffron party come to power in the state. Earlier in the day, during his mega-protest in Kolkata, Prime Minister Banerjee accused him of ‘betraying and insulting’ the people of the state who trusted that she would bring about a change to left-wing rule.
“Bengalis chose you in the role of ‘Didi’ (older sister), but you prefer to be ‘bua’ (aunt) over your ‘bhatija’ (cousin Abhishek Banerjee),” he said.
