But cleaning products are mislabeled and contain harmful ingredients that are not safe for use on human skin and health. Here are some common things you must look out for while buying sanitizers or disinfectants.

All kinds of hand sanitisers, cleaning sprays and cleaning wipes should contain at least 60 per cent alcohol. The high concentration of alcohol kills germs through dehydration.

An effective cleaning agent has a distinct smell. It contains ingredients that discourage people from ingesting the product. If your sanitizer smells like normal fluid, do not use it.

It is better to stick to your brand when buying cleaning products. During the pandemic, many companies have started supplying cleaning products and most of them do not adhere to the norms. They are not that effective.

Apart from alcohol, your cleaning products should also contain glycerin, hydrogen peroxide, and sterile water as necessary ingredients.

As alcohol slowly evaporates with time, your hand sanitiser becomes ineffective at fighting germs and other bacteria. Carefully read the label and check the expiry date.

Methanol is a chemical found in some cleaning products and can be harmful to human skin. Look for products containing isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and ethyl alcohol (ethanol).
