Year’s highest single-day cases at 1,944 in district

Nine people have died of the disease and 1,235 COVID patients recovered in 24 hours, say officials
With 1,944fresh COVID cases reported in the last 24 hours in the district, Pune reported the highest single-day caseload of 2021, taking the cumulative total of COVID cases in the district to 4,17,421.
Also, nine deaths amongst COVID patients were reported on Saturday; the district death toll now stands at 9,295, said district health officials.
Apart from these, a smaller number 1,235 COVID patients recovered in the district on Saturday and were discharged from various hospitals. The cumulative total of COVID patients discharged after full recovery in the district now stands at 3,94,896, said the officials.
On Saturday, 1,944 fresh COVID cases were reported in the district, of which 963 are inPune Municipal Corporation area, 573 in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, 341 in Pune rural and 67 in civil surgeon and cantonment board areas were reported respectively, said Dr Bhagwan Pawar, district health officer of Pune.
Of the total COVID-related deaths,PMC reported nine while PCMC reported one death, said the officials in their statement.
The number of active COVID cases inPune city on Saturday further increased. At present, there are 6,460 active COVID cases in Pune city, of which 321 are critical. The number of COVID patients on oxygen support on Saturday also increased and 672 patients are undergoing oxygen treatment in various city hospitals now. On Saturday, as many as 7,609 tests were conducted by PMC that took the cumulative total of tests conducted in the city to 11.85 lakh, said Dr Ashish Bharti, PMC health chief.
Of the 10 deaths reported on Saturday, a 47-year-old male, resident of Shirur, was the youngest COVID-positive patient reported dead at a COVID hospital in Pune. The patient was admitted on February 7 and reported dead on March 4. The cause of death is said to be multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), respiratory failure in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pneumothorax, sepsis and septic shock in COVID-positive. The patient was suffering from no morbid conditions.
Another 80-year-old female, a resident of Shirur, was the oldest COVIDpositive patient, who was reported dead at a COVID hospital in Pune. The patient was admitted on February 2 and reported death on March 5. The cause of death is said to be MODS respiratory failure in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), pneumothorax, sepsis and septic shock. The patient was suffering from hypertension.
State COVID tally crosses 22 lakh
With a greater number, 10,187 fresh COVID cases reported in the last 24 hours in the state. The state COVID tally has crossed the 22-lakh mark and stood at 22,08,586, said the officials. Also, 47 deaths amongst COVID patients were reported on Saturday, taking the state death toll to 52,440, said the officials.
Some 6,080 COVID patients recovered and discharged after treatment from various hospitals of the state. The cumulative total of COVID recoveries in state has risen to 20,62,031, said the officials. The number of active cases in the state has also increased to 92,897. At present, 4,28,676 people are in home quarantine and 4,514 people are in institutional quarantine in the state. The state has a recovery rate to 93.36 per cent and case fatality rate of 2.37 per cent, said the officials.
