Pugilist Nikhat begins fresh beginning

Telangana boxer Nikhat Zareen was a true fighter in every way. The pugilis fought every chance, whether with the system or in the prospect of a fair chance in trials before the Olympic elections or the stigma in society over women boxing.

The state boxer is ready to enter the ring after more than a year’s gap. She will represent India in the upcoming Bosphorus Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, which will be held from 15 to 21 March. Nikhat, who was in the news to seek a fair trial against Indian boxing legend Mary Kom for the election to the Olympic core team in the 51kg category, is excited to come back into action after a long gap. The former junior junior champion said during the national camp in New Delhi: ‘I am delighted to be able to represent the country and do what I love most. The last time I played a tournament was in January 2020 and it will be challenging to return after more than a year. “I work hard and will do my best to win gold for the country,” she said.

With her rival and legend Mary Come in the twilight of her career, the heiress hopes to gain as much experience from the tournaments as possible so she can be at her peak next year. ‘I want to gain good experience and improve my game this year for next year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. From this year onwards, we also have an Asian championship, ‘she revealed.

When returning to competitions after a forced interruption due to Covid-19, she said, ‘it was initially difficult to return to my form because it was more than a year’s gap. I’m completely fit again now. Whatever the outcome of this competition, I want to learn and improve my game. ”

Nikhat has been part of the Indian camp since January and found himself in a tough bio-bubble. “I miss the outside world. I see my friends going on vacation, shopping and enjoying their lives, but I’m in a bio-bubble going through a difficult time. Life in a bio-bubble is also boring. But if you have dreams of representing the country, you must sacrifice a few things. I miss shopping and spending time with friends. “But my dream is to win medals for the country, and those are the sacrifices I have chosen to make,” she said.
