As many as 273 candidates are in the fray for the elections to 74 wards of six civic bodies while 95 candidates will try their luck for polls to 30 wards of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), scheduled to be held on March 20, 2021.
As per the final list released by the State Election Commission, a total of 37 election aspirants are in the fray for elections to 10 wards of Pernem Municipal Council, 23 candidates are contesting from nine wards of Valpoi Municipal Council, while 31 candidates will fight the poll battle in 12 wards of Canacona Municipal Councils.
There are 48 candidates in the final list who will be contesting elections to 15 wards of Curchorem Municipal Council.
Around 68 candidates are in the battle for 14 wards of Bicholim Municipal Councils and a total of 66 candidates in fray for14 wards of Cuncolim Municipal Council.
Some four candidates are up for a challenge to the by-election to Navelim Zila Panchayat segment of Salcete block of South Goa ZP.
The number of candidates participating in the by-elections to 18 different wards of different Village Panchayats (VPs) are 49 while there are two candidates who will be contesting for the by-poll to ward nine (lone ward) of Sanquelim Municipal Council
Sakhalkar Nirmala Mahesh has been declared elected unopposed from ward eight of Valpoi Municipal Council. Four more candidate who had filed their nominations papers for the by-election to VP ward has also been declared elected unopposed, they are from number two of Mauxi VP, ward number three of Bhironda VP, ward seven of Rivona VP and ward two of Chicalim VP.
They have been declared elected unopposed as either nomination by other candidates were withdrawn or since no other candidates had filed nomination.
