Jamshedpur: Mango civic body officials carried out a two-day drive on Thursday and Friday to free roads captured by vendors. Sources said around 10 vendors were evicted from the roadside and a fine amount of Rs 15,000 was collected for violating rules.
An official of the civic body, Deepak Sahay, said, “The road connecting Mango Chowk to Dimna Chowk is encroached by hawkers throughout the day, which often leads to traffic snarls and accidents.”
In the same breath he said, “Similar drives have been held earlier, but the hawkers keep coming back.” A battery of policemen accompanied the officials to ensure that there is no law and order problem during the drive.
Meanwhile, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee carried out anti-encroachment drives in Sakchi market area on Thursday after a large number of hawkers and street food vendors were found encroaching the roads. Their goods were seized, said sources. Special officer Krishna Kumar said vehicle owners who had parked their two or four wheelers at no parking zones were fined too.
Meanwhile, 216 street food vendors got themselves registered at Rs 2,000 in East Singhbhum district.
