Tamil Nadu: Man arrested under POCSO Act for impregnating minor in Pudukottai district

TRICHY: A 20-year-old youth was arrested on Friday under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for impregnating a 17-year-old girl in Pudukottai district.
The victim belonged to a Dalit community and is a class X student from a government school in Pudukottai district.
According to police, the accused, who belongs to a backward class community, was residing close to the victim’s house and both knew each other.
After the girl was sexually assaulted by the man, she became pregnant.
The victim’s parents were unaware of her pregnancy.
She developed health issues a few days back and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her parents were informed that the girl is five months pregnant.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim and her parents in Pudukkottai all women police station, the accused was arrested and produced in the court on Friday.
He was remanded in custody up to March 19 and lodged in Thirumayam sub-jail.
The accused was booked under section 5 (L) (penetrative sexual assault on the child), 5 (j) (ii) (impregnating a minor as a consequence of sexual assault) r/w 6 of Pocso act.
