The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues the initial idea of hosting the 2021 IPL edition in one city, and is exploring the option of playing the league in four to five cities. The logistics section needs to be discussed further, but the idea has been driven and is being discussed by the senior officials of the council.
A BCCI official with knowledge of developments said the idea has been discussed, and although it is still early, the 14th edition of the league could be played in more than one city if things go according to plan and the GC approval give. .
‘We are investigating the possibility of holding the IPL in more places than originally planned. The intention is to take it to more fans because the situation is moving normally. The feasibility of the bio-safe bubble and logistics will of course be crucial to ultimately determine the premises. ‘This is a fluid situation and the health of the participants is our biggest concern,’ ‘the official said.
Some of the cities discussed are Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad.
While the tournament is still a while away, franchises are also open to the idea of having the league in more than one city, as it will help them stay flexible with a view to the COVID-19 situation.
While the BCCI would like to take the most successful domestic league to as many supporters as possible, the board is also clear that the restrictions on bio-bubbles will be imposed, taking into account the safety of the players as during the tournament. to the UAE in 2020.
