GURUGRAM: All households in the city will soon get MCG’s water bills at doorstep. The civic body has outsourced the work to issue water bills to a private company.
The bill will be issued by the companies’ executives after reading the meter on the spot, an official said. Also, those who have not installed a meter will be charged a fixed rate depending on the size of their properties.
According to the official, the firm will issue water bills to residents of all authorised, unauthorised and private builder colonies and other sector areas belonging to MCG. The firm has been given the contract for four years.
According to the civic body, water bills are being issued on the basis of the property tax data of residents. The civic body officials had identified over two lakh households in the MCG limits in February 2020, where the water meters had to be installed. However, execution of the plan was delayed due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown. Installation of meters will regularise the water supply of MCG.
“We have around 77,000 sanctioned water connections. However, the property tax is collected from 4.5 lakh properties in the city. If we remove vacant plots and commercial units from 4.5 lakh property tax units, we will still have around 2.5 lakh properties where water is being supplied to, but MCG is not charging anything for it. We are now going to issue water bills at fixed rates on the basis of the size of properties for water consumption,” said said Amit Sandila, executive engineer, MCG.
The lower limit of the bills generated at fixed rates is Rs 200 per month and the upper limit is Rs 1,200. MCG officials said the bills will be generated depending on the size of the property.
