The DMK on Friday moved ahead with its alliance talks and signed the seat-sharing deal with CPI by offering six seats. With this, it has concluded agreements with four parties - VCK, CPI, IUML and MMK for a total of 17 seats. While CPI was to sign the agreement around noon on Friday, the party preferred to convene a meeting of its state council in the morning. Eventually, the CPI delegation came to the DMK headquarters and signed the deal. At the Congress party’s extended executive Committee meeting, TNCC president K S Alagiri turned emotional, when he described to the members the way the DMK treated the Congress delegation, when it went to the DMK headquarters twice for the talks. “More than numbers, the way they treated a senior leader Oomen Chandy hurt me,” Alagiri told the meeting.

Every Tamil Nadu family benefited from our schemes: BJP
State president of the BJP L Murugan on Friday said every family in Tamil Nadu has benefited from schemes of the Centre and this, along with the AIADMK government’s welfare schemes, would stand them in good stead in the assembly election. “At least one person in every house has benefited by one scheme or other of the Union government. These schemes combined with the ones executed by the state government in the past 10 years, which took the state in the growth path, will come in favour of our alliance,” he told reporters at Tuticorin airport. He was on his way to Kanyakumari to review arrangements for Union home minister Amit Shah’s campaign on Sunday.
Poll pact only if AIADMK meets demand for 25 seats, says DMDK
The DMDK on Friday admitted to having demanded 41 seats from the AIADMK initially and now brought it down to 25. There have been no talks between the allies for the past three days. “We have informed them about the number of seats we want. We have communicated to the AIADMK that we will sign the poll pact only if they meet our demand,” DMDK general secretary B Parthasarathy said. The DMDK leader was hopeful of finalising the seats in two days. The party has received more than 2,000 applications from poll aspirants. The DMDK will hold interviews with ticket seekers from all districts on March 6, 7 and 8. READ MORE
