While Mamata Banerjee put to rest days of speculation by announcing she will contest from Nandigram, the AIADMK and BJP announced candidates in Tamil Nadu.
Amid the verbal fight between the BJP and the TMC in West Bengal, BJP member and TMC turncoat Suvendhu Adhikari attacked Mamata Banerjee for calling BJP leaders outsiders. He took a dig at Banerjee for contesting from Nandigram saying ‘We want the son of Midnapore, not outsiders.’
The BJP is likely to release its first list of candidates for West Bengal on March 7 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Brigade Rally in Kolkata.

“The Prime Minister asked us not to indulge in name-calling or negativity to counter the diatribe against the party and its leaders from the ruling TMC. He asked each one of us to see to it that the BJP’s campaign is civilised,” said a senior party leader who was part of the central election committee meeting on Thursday to the Indian Express.

Recap: Election Commission of India has extended 30 minutes of the polling time for phase 1 of West Bengal Assembly elections 2021 following Covid-19 guidelines. The first phase of elections is scheduled to be held in March. The 2021 elections will take place in 30 Assembly constituencies of West Bengal.
The three-phase Assam assembly polls will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6. In the first phase, 47 constituencies will go to polls, in the second phase, polling will be held in 39 constituencies and in the third phase, polling will be held in 40 constituencies. The BJP central election committee had met here on Thursday to finalise these names.
Election Updates: “This is throw of the dice style politics by Mamata,” said senior journalist Subir Bhaumik, who has been following Banerjee’s politics for many years.“Mamata has killed several birds with her single Nandigram move,” Bhaumik feels. “West Bengal CM moving back to her political roots will further underline her pro-poor image,” he said. Her move is also an attempt to reclaim Nandigram legacy and cut down the Adhikari clan’s influence in the region.

EC asks Health Ministry To remove photo of Modi from Covid certificates | The EC, in a letter to the health ministry, sought a response over the matter and has asked health ministry to remove the photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the coronavirus vaccine certificate under the rules of Election Code of Conduct.The EC suggested that the photo be removed from vaccine certificates from the four poll-bound states of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and UT Puducherry.
Election Updates: Meanwhile ahead of the Bengal elections, TMC had termed PM Modi’s photo on the coronavirus certificate a violation of the Election Code of Conduct and had complained to the Election Commission. In a complaint to the EC, the TMC objected to the use of PM’s photos and accused him of stealing the due credit from frontline workers namely doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers.
