I would like to leave my own legacy: Ashwin

Ahmedabad: Ravichandran Ashwin’s goal is to leave his lasting legacy in the pantheon of Indian cricket greats.

The off-spinner has now won eight Man-of-the-Series awards in his ten-year career and is only eight wickets less than Harbhajan Singh’s 417 Test wickets. It may happen this summer in England, but he does not want to entertain such thoughts.

‘Honestly, it did not even occur to me and if you want me to put my thoughts on it. He is a fantastic bowler. There was a lot to learn from him. I was not even a non-spinner when Bhajju pa started playing for the Indian team, ‘Ashwin’s respect for another practitioner of the same rig was there for all to see.

“I was lucky to play pa with Bhajju when I joined the team and also to play under Anil Bhai, but now I want to leave my own legacy behind,” Ashwin said.

As a student of the game, Ashwin wants to develop every day as a cricketer and person. ‘My growth as a cricketer is a direct synonym for the person I am. I want to keep developing, keep learning and that’s my second nature, directly proportional to the kind of cricketer I am and whatever I do, the best I can be. ”

Ashwin’s indifference to all the critics is well documented and he would like to see how the global media reacts when a green sheet is given to India when they go to play outside the subcontinent.

‘The series victory is proof of the fact that it is a very good Indian cricket team. That’s all I want to say. “I just listened to what Sunny Bhai (Sunil Gavaskar) is saying the other day,” Ashwin said, referring to Gavaskar’s statement that he did not have too much faith in British experts.
