West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021: A day after the TMC released the full list of 291 candidates, the BJP on Saturday released the first list of candidates for West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021 just a few days ahead of the polls. As per updates, the BJP has released the list of 57 candidates for phase 1 and 2 of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021.
Announcing the list of candidates, BJP General Secretary Arun Singh said that Suvendu Adhikari will contest from Nandigram seat against his rival Mamata Banerjee. Arun Singh said that the BJP’s Central Election Committee has approved the names of candidates on 57 seats for West Bengal Assembly elections.
The BJP leader said that out of 57 seats announced, the Baghmundi seat has been given to AJSU for West Bengal Assembly elections. Here’s full list of 57 candidates for West Bengal Assembly Elections 2021.
The BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) met on Thursday to finalise the first list of party candidates for the West Bengal assembly polls. Earlier it was reported that the will announce the names of 60 candidates along with their seat details for the West Bengal assembly polls.
Interestingly, the BJP this time decided to field Suvendu Adhikari from Nandigram against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee vacated her own seat from Bhawanipur to contest the elections from Nandigram.
According the list, former Indian cricketer Ashoke Dinda and ex-IPS officer Bharati Ghosh are among the BJP candidates, party general secretary Arun Singh said at a press conference, adding that it has conceded one seat to ally AJSU.
With this the party has announced candidates for all but three of the 60 seats which will go to polls in the first two of the eight-phase elections to be held between March 27 and April 29.
Nandigram, the site of protests against the Left government which had ignited a popular upsurge and catapulted the TMC to power in 2011, is set for one of the keenest electoral battles in the state with Banerjee taking on her former protegee and now BJP leader Adhikari.
Adhikari had won from the seat in 2016 and resigned recently before crossing over to the saffron party. Banerjee announced her candidature from the seat while leaving her traditional constituency of Bhowanipore in Kolkata.
Assembly Elections in West Bengal is poised to be a tough contest between the TMC and the BJP and it will be held in eight phases between March 27 and April 29. Counting of voted will be done on May 2.
