Man hacked to death at CRPF Square in Bhubaneswar in broad daylight

Bhubaneswar: A man was hacked to death at CRPF Square under Nayapalli police limits here in the capital city Saturday in broad daylight. Another person was seriously injured in the attack.

Police have detained two persons in this connection.

The deceased has been identified as Jatia Das, a pick-up van driver who lived in Salia Sahi. The detained persons have been identified as Sagar Prusty and his brother Sudhir Prusty, also residents of Salia Sahi.

According to a source, the two brothers attacked Jatia and another person with sharp weapons at CRPF Square while passersby chose to be mute spectators. They also damaged Jatia’s pick-up van. When some passersby came to their rescue, Jatia had already died on the spot while the other was seriously injured.

Showing courage, the passersby overpowered Sagar and Sudhir and informed the police. The miscreants were later handed over to the cops. The police recovered the body for post mortem and rescued the injured person and rushed him to Capital Hospital.

A detailed investigation is underway.
