    The Arizona House of Representatives has voted to pass landmark legislation that will prevent operators of app stores from forcing app developers to use a particular in-app payment system as the exclusive mode of payment. The bill could have far-reaching consequences for app store operators such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) as it will enable app developers to avoid paying fees ranging from 15% to 30% charged by the two tech giants. What Happened: The Arizona House of Representatives passed an amendment to the existing bill, HB 2005, in a 31-29 vote on Wednesday. The bill prevents operators of app stores with over a million downloads per year from forcing app developers domiciled in the state to use a particular in-app payment system as the exclusive mode of payment. The app store operators will now be required to offer alternative payment processors to app developers. See also: How to Buy Google Stock For the legislation to become law, it still needs to be passed by the Arizona Senate before being sent to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. The legislation would apply to companies and users in Arizona. Why It Matters: The passage of the legislation marks a setback for Apple and Google as it will enable app developers to avoid paying fees to the tech giants on in-app purchases and app sales. Purchases made through Apple’s App Store and the Google Play app store earn the technology firms a 30% cut. It also comes amid the ongoing legal battle between Epic Games Inc. against both Apple and Google over the removal of Epic’s “Fortnite” game last summer from the app stores run by the two tech giants. Epic has deemed the 30% cut that Apple takes on in-app payments as “unjust”. In August last year, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) criticized Apple’s anticompetitive App Store policies, which led to the shelving of its xCloud game streaming service. Price Movement: Apple shares closed almost 2.5% lower on Wednesday at $122.06 and further declined 0.3% in the after-hours session. "Johnson & Johnson is a very good vaccine. Moderna and Pfizer are the best," he said. "And I am going to do everything I can to make sure the residents of the City of Detroit get the best." Stat News' Matthew Herper called this a "bad plan." It's true that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine trials showed a 72 percent efficacy rate, while Moderna and Pfizer, the two other approved coronavirus vaccines, have a rate of about 95 percent. But health experts say it's still an excellent option, and has other perks like only requiring a single shot and frequently leading to fewer side effects, reports The New York Times. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, said people shouldn't overthink which one to get, and explained the vaccines can't really be compared head-to-head because of different trial circumstances. Besides, experts note, the raw numbers don't show the full picture. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine prevented all hospitalizations and deaths in its large clinical trial, meaning the slightly lower efficacy rate really only points to mild to moderate disease. Detroit's mayor, however, said the city has been able to meet demand with just its supply of Pfizer and Moderna doses, but CNN notes Duggan's administration only expanded vaccine eligibility to residents ages 50 and older with chronic medical conditions on Thursday. Duggan said he would accept Johnson & Johnson doses later on if all other doses are distributed and there are remaining residents who want a vaccine.     Imran Khan on Saturday faces the biggest test yet of his nearly three-year premiership in a crunch confidence vote after losing a senate race. The former cricket star has told his ruling coalition to back him or he will return to opposition, after the surprise defeat of his party's key candidate in upper house elections. His Movement for Justice party on Friday said the cabinet would be dismissed and a new prime minister elected if the 68-year-old prime minister lost the vote. The surprise election of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani ahead of Mr Khan's finance minister, Abdul Hafiz Sheikh, precipitated Mr Khan's biggest crisis since he won power in 2018. Mr Khan accused his own parliamentarians of succumbing to the very corruption he has vowed to stamp out, claiming 15 or 16 "sold" their vote for opposition bribes. A court ruling before the vote that the election would be a secret ballot has meant the rebels could not be identified. "This is your democratic right ... just raise your hands that you don't have confidence and I will go into the opposition [benches]," the prime minister told supporters during a televised speech to the nation. Though Mr Khan improved his standing in the 100-member Senate, the defeat of a key ally and an apparent rebellion by his own party has energised the opposition. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, said Mr Khan had “suffered a humiliating defeat [and] his members expressed a lack of confidence in him and voted against him". Mr Khan swept to power in July 2018 on an anti-corruption platform vowing to stamp out the political graft of leaders like Mr Sharif. His opponents alleged his victory was orchestrated by the country's generals, who have ruled the country directly or behind the scenes for much of Pakistan's history. Mr Khan met with the Army chief and the military spy agency on Thursday. Pakistan’s spy agency has been asked to monitor the movements of Mr Khan's lawmakers to secure their votes, officials told Bloomberg. An alliance of opposition parties has threatened to mobilise a mass march on the capital later this month the try to force Mr Khan's resignation.

Thousands have joined the CDM, which was initially started by the medical profession, but has now picked up bankers, civil servants and small pockets of police officers.
