Self-defence training for over 20,000 girl students at upper primary schools in Prayagraj district

The self defence training module started from first week of this month will continue till March 30.
PRAYAGRAJ: Officials of the education department have started self-defence training modules at 1001 upper primary schools and 20 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya across the Prayagraj district in UP.

Sports teachers\sports instructors — assigned to impart self defense training to girl students — have also been instructed to follow the Covid-19 protocol strictly.
Taj Mohammad, district coordinator (girls education), told TOI that, “Apart from studies, girl students of class VIth to VIIIth are being given self-defense training by the sports teachers\sports instructor at their respective schools."
He further added that the self-defence training module was taken up at all upper primary schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalaya.
Over 10,000 sports teachers or sports instructors were imparted training to train girl students for self-defence mechanisms last year.
He added that sports instructors have been roped in at all upper primary schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika awasiya vidyalaya to train girls.
Mohammad, meanwhile, said that limited strength of girls were being trained schedule wise during the training programme due to Covid-19 protocol.
He, however, said it was a three-month programme to impart self-defense training to girls studying between VIth and VIIIth classes but due to Covid pandemic, it could not be formalised.
The education department, however, has now taken up the exercise in March.
It is estimated over 22,000 girl students would be imparted training during the programme.
A senior education department official said that teachers of school respectively will be compiling the entire data of girls being trained for self-defense mechanisms and they would be sending it to officials concerned to maintain data.
The entire training programme was to be done under the supervision of the principal of schools.
