The Mumbai Zonal Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday filed its chargesheet in the alleged drug probe related to the death case of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
33 people have been named in the chargesheet. Among those who are mentioned in the chargesheet include Sushant's former girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakrabarty. Sushant's former manager Samuel Miranda and household help Dipesh Sawant have also been named.
Out of all the charge-sheeted people, five are absconding. A formal case was registered on August 26, 2020, by the NCB. For the uninformed, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020.
According to our sources, the charge sheet includes 12,000 pages in hard copy and around 50,000 pages in digital format. The pages include Whatsapp chats, location videos, voice recordings, forensic reports among other things including 200 witness accounts.
The NCB probing Sushant's drug case was legally required to file the charge sheet within 180 days and there were just a few days left for them to complete.
The NCB, which has been probing the drugs angle in Sushant's death case, started the investigation after it received official communication from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which there were various chats related to drug consumption, procurement, usage, and transportation.
The ED had on July 31 registered an Enforcement Case Information Report in the late actor's death case after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed by Sushant's father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty in Bihar on July 28. Sushant was found dead at his Mumbai residence on June 14.
