Deutsche Telekom strategically decided to expand FTTC network first

Friday 5 March 2021 | 11:23 CET | News
Deutsche Telekom said it had strategically decided to expand the fibre to the curb (FTTC) network first, and in a second step the fibre to the home (FTTH) network. The company explained that if it had laid fibre-optic cables directly into the house (FTTH) first, 8 million households would have FTTH today, while the rest would have bandwidths of 6 to 16 Mbps. The original strategic decision has resulted in more than 33 million households today having bandwidths of up to 100 Mbps, it added, and over 24 million households can have a bandwidth of up to 250 Mbps.
