Virat Kohli’s wicket meant India were reduced to 43/3 in the opening session. The hosts need to pile a big score to make sure England do not win this match. India need at least a draw to enter the WTC Final against New Zealand in June 2021. The visitors can play a spoilsport as Australia are still in the contention of WTC Final spot.

Earlier on Day 1, Axar Patel and R Ashwin continued their prime form with the ball as India bowled out England for 205 runs. The duo scalped seven wickets while Siraj ended up with two wickets.
