PATIALA: Patiala MP Preneet Kaur and Punjab Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot reached village Khedi Jattan near Bhadson on Friday and shared grief with the parents and other family members of 18-year-old deceased Navjot Singh, who lost his life in the Farmers' agitation at the Singhu border of Delhi.
She also announced to provide Rs 5 lakh to the victim's family and to construct a two kilometres road connecting the village with Laut Mandi in the name of the youth.
Navjot Singh, who passed away suddenly at the Singhu border on February 26, was the only child of his parents Jaswinder Singh and Baljit Kaur. The antim ardas of the deceased was held at village Khedi Jattan on Friday.
MP Preneet Kaur said that the callous attitude of the Modi government was responsible for the woes of farmers. She said that the death of a young son is a big loss for the parents but she prays to God to give them the strength to endure this unbearable pain. She assured that in this hour of grief of the family, she and the Punjab government under the leadership of CM Captain Amarinder Singh stood by the family as well as the struggling farmers.
She said that the deaths of the farmers would not go unnoticed and the Union Government would have to withdraw the anti-farm laws at the end. Replying a media query she said that the Union government had earlier introduced GST. “With the demonetization of currency, the people of the country were deprived of their livelihood and then under the garb of Corona pandemic, the local area development funds of MPs were stopped”, she said while adding that she had also raised the matter in Parliament but it had not been responded yet.
“What the Union government should have done was to double the income of the farmers but instead, it has started harassing the people of the country due to inflation and the FCI that is meant for providing cheap food grains, is being considered to disband. Punjab Government under Capt. Amarinder had fulfilled all its poll promises despite hindrances created by union government like stoppage of GST share etc.,” she added.
