Navi Mumbai Police arrest 1, seize counterfeit notes worth over Rs 1 lakh

Thane, Mar 4 (UNI) The Navi Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested one person and seized from him counterfeit notes of Rs. 500 denomination totally valued at Rs. 1.85 lakhs the police said in an official release on Wednesday.

Police said that acting on a tip off the police laid a trap at the Bus depot near the CBD railway station on Tuesday and spotted the accused Salim Ali Asril Haque, 30 of originally from Malada of WB and seized from his possession a total of 200 notes of Rs. 500 denomination all counterfeit.

He had come there to exchange them with some one the police said.

The police carried out a search of his house at Taloja and found 170 more notes from there of Rs. 500 denomination.

An offence under section 489 B,C of the IPC has been registered against him with the CBD police station.
The police are now now trying to find out as to from where he procured the notes and to whom he was to sell them.
He was produced before a local magistrate who remanded him into police custody till March 11, 2021 the release added.
