About 20 ha of forest land in Nagarhole Tiger Reserve destroyed due to wildfire

Mysuru, Mar 4 (UNI) About 20 hectares of forest land was destroyed following a wildfire at Antharasanthe Forest Range under Nagarahole Tiger Reserve here in Kote taluk.
The fire spread rapidly up to Manandavadi Road due to strong winds. Around six vehicles of fire and emergency services rushed to the spot with more than 30 personnel struggling to check the fire from spreading.
In addition, 200 forest department personnel also swung into action. The employees of nearby jungle lodges and resorts too helped the department staff in containing the fire. Thick smoke could be seen billowing from the forest.
Nagarahole Tiger Project, Director Mahesh Kumar said Thursday that some miscreants had set fire and now the fire under control.
