KARNAL: With 1,305 girls for every 1,000 boys, the sex ratio in Bahri village of Assandh sub-division has been recorded the best in Karnal district.
However, the overall sex ratio of Karnal district has come down from 908 girls per 1,000 boys in 2019 to 900 girls in 2020. The district remains in the 18th position in the state.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said the district was making efforts to eradicate female foeticide, and save and educate the girl child. The DC also honoured three girls — Anjuli, Khushi, and Madhu, who passed Class X with 90%, 84%, and 83% marks, respectively — with a total cash reward of Rs 1.5 lakh.
Yadav said every person must take a pledge to educate the girl child.
Karnal civil surgeon Dr Yogesh Sharma said authorities, every year, identified a village with the highest sex ratio in each district. Similarly, Faridpur village,which has a ratio of 1,259 girls to 1,000 boys, in Gharaunda subdivision was ranked second and Takhana village, with ratio of 1,178:1,000, bagged the third rank in the district.
