NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a meeting on the upcoming assembly elections at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in the national capital.
Alongside the Prime Minister, members of the BJP top brass also attended the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting currently underway in the capital.
The CEC is a key decision-making body that presides over the list of candidates to be nominated by the party. As per sources, a decision on the candidate list for the West Bengal elections might on cards.
Union home minister Amit Shah, Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and BJP president JP Nadda were also seen arriving at the BJP headquarter to attend the CEC meeting.
As per sources, the CEC meeting might finalize candidates for West Bengal elections scheduled to start March 27 onwards in eight phases. Voting will take place on May 2.
Four states, including West Bengal, and one Union territory are scheduled to hold assembly elections this year. Elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry will be held in a single phase while Assam will hold a three-phase election.
