Swiss Open: Sindhu, Sourav Verma, Praneeth & Jayaram progress to 2nd round, Saina crashes out

Basel, Mar 4 (UNI) India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu reached the second round of the ongoing Swiss Open Super 300 tournament after defeating Turkey's Yigit Neslihan 21-16 21-19 in her first match, here.
It was Sindhu's first match against Neslihan, which was held on Wednesday night.
Now, the second-seeded Sindhu will play against Iris Wang of US on Thursday.
However, London Olympic bronze-medallist Saina Nehwal made first-round exit after losing to Phittayaporn Chaiwan of Thailand on the same day. Saina fought 58 minutes before going down 16-21, 21-17, 21-23 to her opponent.
Meanwhile, in men's singles, Sourav Verma, B Sai Praneeth and Ajay Jayaram entered the second round of the tournament.
Verma defeated Christian Kreichmaer of Switzerland 21–19 21–18 in 43 minutes to progress to the second round.
Fifth-seed Praneeth advanced to the second round after defeating Misha Zilberman of Israel 21-11 21-14 in 34 minutes, while Jayaram reached the second round by defeating Thailand's Sithikom Thammasin 21-12 21-13 in 35 minutes.
However, HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap, Lakshya Sen and Sameer Verma crashed out of the tournament after losing their respective match in the first round.
In men's doubles, Satwiksairaj Ranki Reddy and Chirag Shetty also reached the second round.
