LUCKNOW: A bill to repeal ‘obsolete and outdated acts’ was passed with voice vote in UP assembly on Thursday. What made the passage of the bill unusual was the fact that the assembly was declared adjourned sine die and the house was to rise for the national anthem when parliamentary affairs minister introduced the bill.
Members of the ruling party and the opposition were at loggerheads over the house being adjourned sine die five days in advance. However, on assembly speaker Hriday Narayan Dikshit’s repeated appeals, the opposition was pacified and the national anthem was played before the house dispersed.
Amid all this, parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna tabled the bill to repeal the ‘obsolete and outdated acts’, shocking the house once again as till then the adjournment of house was announced. However, the bill was passed just when the national anthem was to be recited. An agitated opposition did not participate in the national anthem and sung it parallelly in the gallery.
