Parineeti Chopra is set to play the titular character in the upcoming biopic titled Saina. She is essaying the role of badminton star Saina Nehwal in the film directed by Amole Gupte. The badminton champion took to social media to share the official teaser. Sharing the post on her Twitter account on March 4, Saina wrote, “Always makes me proud to see my national flag soar high!”
The teaser highlights the journey of the badminton champ’s life. It takes you through her career right from her training days in her childhood. Parineeti as Saina starts talking about how half of the Indian population comprises females who get married by the age of 18. Usually the story ends there, however, she decided to pick the sword in place of a pan and ladle. She said she never got bothered by her opponents as her game was always simple, i.e. to beat the opponent.
The clip shows how the parents and coach of the star encouraged her to win five medals in Commonwealth Games, to be the first Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal, and become the only Indian woman badminton player to become world No. 1. The teaser moves on to show Saina playing for India in international tournaments.
