Why Meghan Markle Could Not 'Be Silent'—Oprah Interview Turns on Royal Firm
Meghan Markle accused the royal family "firm" of taking an active role in "perpetuating falsehoods about us" in a CBS interview.
CBS have released the first words spoken by the Duchess of Sussex from the two-hour prime time special with Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey, which is set to air on Sunday.
And in the latest clip Meghan answers one of the key questions; whether she would criticise the royal family or just the media.
In a new 30 second clip, Oprah asks Meghan: "How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?"
Meghan said: "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us. And if that comes with risk of losing things, there's a lot that's been lost already."
Fans may have to wait until Sunday to find out what falsehoods the duchess has accused "the firm" of spreading as the clip stops after just 30 seconds.
It builds on two previous trailers released by the network, including one where Prince Harry compares their experience of royal life to Princess Diana's.
The Duke of Sussex said: "My biggest concern was history repeating itself. I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side because I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago. It has been unbelievably tough for the two of us. But at least we had each other."
The latest trailer comes after a formal bullying complaint made against Meghan by a former Kensington Palace aide was published in U.K. newspaper The Times yesterday.
Jason Knauf, Meghan and Harry's former press secretary, wrote in 2018: "I am very concerned that the duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year. "The treatment of X [name removed] was totally unacceptable."
Quoted in The Times, he added: "The Duchess seems intent on always having someone in her sights. She is bullying Y [name removed] and seeking to undermine her confidence.
"We have had report after report from people who have witnessed unacceptable behavior towards Y [name removed]."
Meghan and Harry's spokesperson said: "The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.
"She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good."
