The North West NPA regional head of the Special Commercial Crimes Unit, Jeanette Neveling has been suspended pending criminal and disciplinary proceedings over allegations of shoplifting.

Neveling, 53, who is also the deputy director of senior prosecutors in the province, was arrested on 16 February in Mahikeng.

She allegedly stole food and clothing items valued at approximately R3 000 at a retail shop at The Crossing Shopping Mall.

Neveling was earlier released on R500 bail.

NPA North West spokesperson Henry Mamothane said Neveling had been suspended pending internal disciplinary proceedings.

A new prosecutor from another division would be appointed to deal with the matter.

Neveling was expected back in the Mmabatho District Court on 1 June.
