New Delhi: Around 50,000 school bags embossed with pictures of late AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa and Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami were seized at a checkpoint in Achuthanvayal on Wednesday, according to a report by The Hindu.
As per officials, after receiving information, a flying squad was sent to intercept the lorries carrying the bags at the checkpost on the Rameswaram Highway. According to a senior official, both the vehicles and the goods were seized.
The school bags had been reportedly packed into white gunny bags with the words ‘School Education Department’ printed on them in Tamil, according to an inspection.
“We are in the process of interrogating the suspects. Preliminary inquiries revealed that they were from Uttar Pradesh and Nagaland. We are probing whether the order was placed there or the vehicles belonged to those States,” an official told the national daily.
