HYDERABAD: Cyberabad Police in Telangana arrested a registered medical practitioner (RMP) and three others, who have been conning people on the pretext of providing gold at cheaper price on Thursday.
RMP Syed Dasthagiri Ahmed, Shaik Hafeez, Ali Akber Tayyabi, Mirza Abbas were arrested while their accomplice Abdul Faheem is absconding, Cyberabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar said.
Police seized 5.85 kgs of fake gold biscuits and Rs 8 lakh of net cash.
Police said that a few days ago, they got a complaint in Rajendranagar police informing that Mirza Abbas Ali Sajjad and Ali Akber Tayyabi approached the complainant, through one Mubeen, claiming that they will sell gold biscuits at cheaper price.
The accused offered to sell one tola gold at Rs 40,000 by showing a 20 tolas biscuit.
The victim paid Rs 50,000 as advance.
The victim later found that it was gold coated brass.
When police took Sajjad and Tayyabi into custody and questioned them, the officials came to know that Sajjad himself was previously a victim of similar gold fraud.
Later, he, in association with Tayyabi, started conning others and made easy money.
According to Sajjad, it all started when his mother claimed that she was getting dreams that she will die if some hidden gold is not recovered from their house.
Sajjad informed the same to his friend, Tayyabi, who in turn informed Faheem and Hafeez, as they know the black magician, Dasthagiri Ahmed.
Officials said that Dasthagiri visited the house of Sajjad and confirmed that there was some hidden wealth in the latter’s house and it can be retrieved by performing some pooja.
"Dasthagiri claimed that pooja is an expensive affair and it will cost between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4 lakh," Sajjanar said.
He added, Sajjad agreed to pay Rs 3 lakh as first installment and the remaining money will be sent after the pooja.
Officials said that Dasthagiri brought coated brass biscuits through Faheem.
On the day of pooja, Dasthagiri dug pits in Sajjad’s house at five different places without the knowledge of Sajjad.
They were covered with soil.
After performing the pooja and recovering the hidden metals, the accused Dasthagiri asked Sajjad and his family members not to touch the metal since it has spiritual power and wrapped them in a cloth.
They were warned that if someone touches them, the gold will become brass and they will die.
Sajjad and his family, due to curiosity, checked the hidden metal in the cloth to lay their hands on the gold and went tested they found them to be brass.
Dasthagiri told them that since they violated the procedure, he cannot be blamed.
As a result, the Sajjad family lost money.
Later, Sajjad with few other accused, got into cheating others in the pretext of providing gold at cheaper price.
