Two Tripura farmers trapped outside wire fencing, now land into Bangladesh jail

Agartala, Mar 4 (UNI) Tension mounted in bordering villages of Khowai district after a local court of Srimangal in eastern Bangladesh has sent two Tripura farmers to 14 days jail who were arrested by
Bangladesh Border Guards (BBG) from outside the wire fencing on Feb 26 last.
According to the report, Bangladesh police have booked them for illegally entering their territory.
Police said the victims Gurupada Debbarma (40) and Rahul Debbarma (37) have lemon orchards along the international boundary outside the wire fencing erected 150 yards inside the actual border between India and Bangladesh. They used to lease out the orchard to Bangladeshi farmers living along the border and like other days duo went outside the fencing to finalise the deal for next year.
The victim families alleged that the persons who had given the orchard last year did not pay them well and Gurupada and Rahul had gone to lease the orchards to another person at a better rate. They had gone outside the fencing with due information and following all formalities of BSF. During the discussion, a group of people there wanted to get the orchard offering low price but when they denied the proposal BBG detained them as illegal migrants.
With the persuasion of the victim families, BSF has taken up the matter with its counterpart seeking the release of Gurupada and Rahul arguing that they had gone to see their orchard like other days. A few thousand hectares of agricultural land of Tripura was fenced out due to the erection of wire fencing inside the Indian Territory and as per agreement owners of the land have the right to go there.
Moreover, over a thousand Indian families were living outside the fencing in different bordering locations for a long time. Despite being citizens of Tripura, they have to spend nights outside the fencing due to age-old habitation inside zero line. As agreed by both countries India had erected fencing inside Indian Territory without disturbing the habitation in many places of Tripura.
For resettling about 93000 people living outside the fencing, the then left front government had submitted a project to the centre about a decade ago but it was not sanctioned and as a result, a large number fenced out families settled outside.
On the other, jawans of the 164th battalion of BSF had detained youth at the bordering location of Raisyabari police station in Dhalai district while he was crossing the border from Bangladesh to Tripura on Wednesday. Police said the arrested youth was identified as Mohammad Ali Babu (24) of Baghaichhari village of Panchhari police station under Khagracherri district of Bangladesh.
Police said the youth told them he had come to India to get some Indian documents. He spoke to a local youth Milan Chakma from Bangladesh on the phone and gave some money to Milan Chakma to make documents. However, police have not yet been able to find out Indian youth Milan Chakma.
