Days after Myntra announced its decision to tweak its logo, now e-commerce giant Amazon has sneakily rolled out a small change in its mobile app icon after users found an uncanny similarity between the app’s former logo and Adolf Hitler.
Early in January, Amazon had introduced the new icon to replace their age-old ‘shopping cart’ symbol with one featuring a brown box with a jagged piece of blue tape stripping down, right above the company’s iconic smile-shaped arrow. This could suggest a nod to Amazon’s packaging.
However, once the logo had gone viral on social media, netizens quickly pointed out how the jagged piece of blue tape reminded users of Nazi leader, Hitler’s toothbrush moustache. The comparison blew up social media until Amazon decided to come up with a new logo, without any official announcement as such.
Taking note of the customer feedback, Amazon seems to have quickly altered the icon slightly to avoid any further controversy. The new logo has adhesive tape, which has been opened and folded from a corner.

Amazon replaced the old ‘shopping cart’ icon with one that combined Amazon’s smile logo and a blue adhesive tape strip on a brown background, as a nod to Amazon’s shipping boxes. The adhesive tape strip looked a bit too much like the moustache of Adolf Hitler.— I am Narayan (@NarayanIndia1) March 2, 2021

“Amazon is always exploring new ways to delight our customers. We designed the new icon to spark anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers start their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their doorstep,” said an Amazon spokesperson, reports The Verge.
The logo change from the shopping cart image was the company’s first icon update in more than five years, reports New York Post.
