The huge forest tracts in Tamil Nadu are perfect for eco-tourism promotion. In an initiation to drive the state to the top slot in this sector, the forest department of TN has recently created an organization. It will help provide exclusive experiences for the visitors as well as wildlife enthusiasts like in a corporate set-up.
The Tamil Nadu Wilderness Experiences Corporation will offer quality experiences in a non-intrusive and sustainable way, with little to no environmental impact. On a commercial basis, this body will endorse the identified destinations and improve the opportunities of the livelihood of the local communities, said an official.
The corporation will not search for new and fresh areas or locations as the department by now holds eco-tourism events in the four tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries.
Under the current agreement, a tourist coming to the Mudumalai tiger reserve and having plans to explore the Avalanche area as well has to pay different tariffs at the destinations as there is no uniformity in the events organized there in spite of the locations coming under the state forest department. Charges differ for guest houses, the food served. The safari trip cost also varies.
