A young man came back from the dead just moments before his postmortem was to be carried out in Mahalingapura town of Rabakavi-Banahatti taluk near Bengaluru.

The 27-year-old man had been in a serious road accident on Saturday and had been admitted to a private hospital in Belagavi. He had been put on the ventilator but the doctors had told his family that he won’t live long.

The man’s family told The Times of India that they had brought him to the hospital after the accident. But medical personnel at the hospital soon declared him dead and sent his body for postmortem. However, a senior officer in the room where the postmortem was to be carried out observed some movements in the man’s bodies and raised doubts. On inspection, it was revealed that the man was actually still alive.

The man has now been admitted to another hospital for treatment.

Similar cases had been reported in India in the past as well.

One such incident in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district took everyone by surprise in 2019. Sanna Eerajja, over 80 years old, had reportedly died of an illness more than 50 years ago. But his sudden return to his village left everyone baffled.

Speaking to News 18 Kannada, Eerajja said he had lost all the memory of the past. However, when he saw people from his village, he felt a “familiar connection”.

Eerajja lived in a small village in Andhra Pradesh. Recently, a few villagers from Chitranayakanahalli visited that village to buy sheep manure and saw him there. The octogenarian recollected the name of the village and the people who lived there. This surprised the villagers. When he mentioned his wife’s name, one of them made a call to Eerajja’s brother, Beviganna.

Eerajja’s wife Eeramma, who was glad to see her husband after so many years, spoke about how a fakir had once told her that he would return. “I visited his grave three days after he was buried, but it was dug out. We assumed it was a fox. But there was no evidence to know that he is alive,” she said.

But the police were skeptical of these claims, saying the story was difficult to believe.

In 2018, a man in Bhopal pronounced dead by doctors was resuscitated after a pathologist who was to perform the autopsy found the ‘dead man’ to have a pulse.

Himanshu Bharadwaj, a resident of Professor Colony in Chhindwara, suffered severe injury in a road accident. He was admitted to a local hospital, but as his condition worsened, he was rushed to a private hospital in Nagpur. There, Bharadwaj was declared brain-dead.

He was brought back to Chhindwara District Hospital where he was pronouned dead and his ‘body’ sent for autopsy.

Luckily for him, pathologist Dr. Nirnay Pandey who was to perform the autopsy detected Bharadwaj’s pulse. He was rushed to a ward in the hospital and given initial treatment.
