Man held for killing uncle, aunt over property dispute

Ranchi: Police arrested a man on Tuesday for killing an Adivasi couple at their residence in Tikli Toli under Gonda police station area of Ranchi on Saturday.
The man, identified as Sumit Munda (20) is the couple’s nephew.
On Saturday, when the couple — Tetru Pahan and Lakhia Devi — were found dead, police had suspected that the duo must have killed each other after a drunken altercation. Later, a team led by DSP (sadar) Prabhat Barwar detected signs of intrusion.
Ranchi SSP Surindra Jha on Tuesday said, “The special investigative team arrested Sumit who confessed to have committed the crime during the interrogation.”
Police said that since the couple had no children, Sumit was eyeing their property and used to get angry whenever the former sold some property owned by them. He also demanded a mobile phone and a bike which Tetru had refused to provide.
Irked at the refusal, Sumit broke into their house at night and murdered them. Police seized a bike and the weapon used in the crime.
