TUTICORIN: A 22-year-old man accused of murdering a father and son last May was hacked to death on Wednesday.
The victim -- Balamurugan of Therku Bommayapuram in Tuticorin district -- who was out on bail visited the Kovilpatti West Police Station last to fulfil the bail condition by the court.
He was riding his bike to a relative’s place at Gandhi Nagar, when the accused chased him in a car and intercepted him. Balamurugan ran on the road and the accused chased him again and hacked him.
The man, who was battling for his life, was rushed to Kovilpatti government hospital.
Since his condition was critical he was referred to Tirunelveli government medical college hospital on Wednesday, however, he died on the way.
According to the police, on May 17, 2020, the victim was returning home in an inebriated condition when a quarrel broke out with K Kalichamy, 40, of the same village, who was also drunk.
In the turn of events Balamurugan attacked Kalichamy with a machete. The latter’s father Karuppasamy, 70, and brother Maharajan, 30, rushed Kalichamy to Pasuvanthanai primary health centre and went to Balamurugan’s house to question him. Following this, Balamurugan hacked Karuppasamy and Maharajan to death.
Pasuvanthanai police arrested Balamurugan and lodged him in jail.
He was also detained under the Goondas Act and was recently released on bail after the Goondas act was quashed.
Following Balamurugan’s murder the Kovilpatti police registered a case and is on the lookout for the accused.
