To cope with rising demand, the PMC has decided to increase the number of vaccination centres to 62 from Friday. The vaccination drive for senior citizens and those aged above 45 with co-morbidities is finally becoming more streamlined with 2,753 senior citizens and 292 co-morbid people inoculated Thursday along with healthcare and frontline workers.

The city continued to record an increase in new infections with 904 more positive cases and seven deaths. The active case count now stands at 5,886 and the toll at 4,876 so far. The PMC increased the number of vaccination centres to 46 for tackling the increasing demand of eligible beneficiaries. It has allowed some private hospitals to carry out vaccination by charging Rs 250 while the same is free at government hospitals.

A total of 4,819 senior citizens and 482 co-morbid people have been vaccinated so far in the last four days. “The number of vaccination centres will be increased to 62, including 40 in government-run hospitals and 22 in private hospitals Friday to cater to the demand for,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Rubal Agarwal.

The PMC has also started vaccination drive at three civic hospitals in two shifts. Kamla Nehru hospital in Mangalwar Peth, Rajiv Gandhi hospital in Yerawada and Naidu hospital near Pune station are working on administering the vaccine in two shifts from 8 am to 3 pm and from 3 pm to 10 pm, while it is being carried out from 9 am to 5 pm in other centres.
The civic administration has declared 42 micro-containment zones across the city, which are restricted to a building with a minimum of five active cases or a housing society with at least 20 active patients.
