India will clash with England in the fourth and final test of theTest series on Thursday, 4th March, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts will go into the match with a 2-1 lead in this series. Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin were the stars as they spun a web around England’s batsmen in both the innings to secure the last match well within two days.
Axar Patel bagged the man of the match award for his 11 wickets in the match. Also, we saw Ashwin breach the 400-wicket landmark in the third Test – he became the second-fastest bowler to achieve this feat.
With the loss in the third Test match, England are now out of contention for qualification for the World Test Championship finals. However, they will be keen to avoid a series defeat and win this match to walk away with a drawn series.
If India do manage to avoid defeat, they will march through to the finals where they will lock horns with New Zealand at Lord’s.
“The wicket would be similar to the third Test and also the second Test what we played in Chennai. The wicket would be similar, yes the pink ball made the difference, it was coming much quicker of the wicket as compared to the red ball. That was an adjustment we had to make but as I said wicket would be a lot similar to the last two Test matches,” Team India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane said in a press conference ahead of the match.
With Jasprit Bumrah pulling out for personal reasons, India could go in with Umesh Yadav. Also, they might opt for Kuldeep Yadav in place of Washington Sundar if the pitch offers assistance to the spinners.
