AJMER: Eighteen-year-old Mansi Gujar on Tuesday went to Bhilwara court to nullify her child marriage which took place 12 years ago when she was only six years old. The court directed summon to her husband. The girl gathered the courage to annul her marriage.
Mansi said that when she was married, she was ignorant. Now that she has become an adult, she is against the marriage. She talked to her parents but they wanted her to continue the marriage as it was a ritual according to their religion.
Later, she approached Dr Kriti Bharti, managing trustee and rehabilitation psychologist of Saarthi trust of Jodhpur and crusader of child marriage. Kriti went to Bhilwara with cousel Mansi and took her to the family court and filed a petition to annul her marriage. Seeing the sensitivity of the matter, the judge issued notice to husband of Mansi.
Kriti said that her trust has made a record for annulling 41 marriages and providing freedom to girls from the social evil of child marriage. She said that Mansi, a resident of Paladi village of Bhilwara, had had a child marriage in 2009 to a man of Banera village. Now when Mansi has grown up, she does not want to accept the man as her husband and raised her voice against child marriage. She added that Mansi is studying in first year of graduation.
Her in-laws have started pressurizing her and her family.
