Glad to hear about Mirwaiz’s release from arbitrary detention: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Mar 3 (UNI) Asserting that it is good to hear about moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Maulvi Umer Farooq’s release from arbitrary detention, former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday hoped that hundreds of Kashmiri men languishing in jails in and outside J&K will also be released soon.



Ms Mehbooba, who is the president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said its time they returned home to their families.



The former chief minister was responding to reports that the 20-month-long preventive detention of Mirwaiz, who is also the head priest of Kashmir, has come to an end. However, there was no official confirmation about the reports.



“Good to hear about Mirwaiz’s release from arbitrary detention. I hope that hundreds of Kashmiri men languishing in jails in & outside J&K will also be released soon. Its time they returned home to their families,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
