On Monday Arvind Singh, the Union Secretary Tourism, assessed the overall status of tourism and the other promotional activities related to this sector being undertaken by the J&K Tourism Department to draw travelers. He is currently on a 2-day visit to this newly turned UT.
During his visit, Union Secretary, Tourism, had organized a meeting with Director Tourism Kashmir, Dr. G N Itoo, MD JKTDC, Nisar A Wani, MD Golf Development Authority and SKICC, Bakshi Javid Hamayun, CEO, GDA, Inam-ul-Haq, Principal, Institute of Hotel Management, Rajbagh and other officers.
Union Secretary Tourism was narrated about the efforts taken by the Department of J&K Tourism since September, 2020, the status of the inflow of tourists, facilities being extended to them, the measures related to COVID in order. The upcoming festivals and road shows were organized, both within and outside the territory.
Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo, informed about the different festivals that are impending in the coming days like Doodpathri Festival. It will take place next week, the Badamwari and Tulip Festival layer in March. This is expected to draw a huge number of tourists to the Union Territory.
The Union Secretary commended the UT government initiations related to tourism promotion and hailed the successful conduct of the mega Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg. Secretary Tourism at the time of his visit also explored Gulmarg and inspected various facilities over there.
Also, Union Secretary Tourism talked with different stakeholders related to tourism and service providers at Gulmarg. The stakeholders requested him to look into the up-gradation facilities at Srinagar Airport, increasing flight frequencies and night landing system at Srinagar and in starting of direct flights from major cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
