Apex Legends Mobile Gameplay Features EA’s Battle Royale Needs to Succeed

Apex Legends Mobile is one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming these days. Although EA admitted an Android and iOS version of its battle royale smash hit is in the works, nothing new has surfaced unless you consider Apex Legends Mobile’s minimum requirements and developer that IGN India was the first to report on. While it’s still in development with no real release date or beta in sight outside of a vague 2021 window, it isn’t too far-fetched to have some expectations for the upcoming mobile battle royale when it’s made available for download. Without further ado, here are some of the things we hope to see in Apex Legends Mobile when it is on the App Store and Google Play.

Uncompromised Gameplay

It should come at no surprise that the number one thing we want to see in Apex Legends Mobile is the full version of Apex Legends with zero compromises when it comes to gameplay. Apex Legends is one of the most interesting takes on the battle royale genre thanks to its use of characters with their own abilities, and a mix of interesting guns and movement options. Throw on top the downright fantastic pinging system that makes communication with your team mates a breeze and you get one of the battle royale on your platform of choice. The mobile version should include all of the wonderful weapons, character abilities, and most importantly, a fun and varied map to use all of the cool things in. What’s the point of Pathfinder’s zip line if there isn’t any ravine to cross with it, after all.

Crossover Events

Some of the more interesting things we’ve seen happen with battle royales in recent times is the number of crossover events. One of PUBG Mobile’s standout events, the Resident Evil 2 Remake event, as well as Fortnite with just about everything else laid the foundations that can be built upon by Apex Legends. The desktop and console versions of Apex Legends have largely avoided the idea of crossovers, but the larger audience a smartphone release for Apex Legends Mobile will bring will undoubtedly make the idea of cool crossover events with fun twists on gameplay an appealing one. Who knows, we might even see a Spider-Man skin for Pathfinder some day.

More Squad Options

One of Apex Legends’ most controversial game design decisions was squads being limited to 3 players. While Respawn has toyed with the idea of bigger and smaller squads with limited time events, Apex Legends Mobile might just end up being the perfect place to test and implement squads of varying sizes, be it solos, duos, or 4-player squads. While it does raise a few questions about the game’s balance with regards to some characters’ abilities, things can be rebalanced to work better with expanded options. And like we’ve always said, more options are always great for the health of the game and players at large.

Cross-Play

While the addition of cross-platform multiplayer might be a controversial idea, the ability to opt in to a feature like this would be fantastic. In this day and age of mainstream gaming, not everyone plays their video games on the same platform, after all. A way for a PC player to team up with a PS4 player and a smartphone player would be fantastic. Not only does it help bridge the gap between different platforms, it also helps improve the long-term health of the game since player counts will never go down thanks to multiple platforms being able to play with each other. Though considering that Apex Legends Mobile is not being developed at Respawn or Panic Button that’s working on the Nintendo Switch version, but at Tencent, it’s quite likely that Apex Legends Mobile will be its own beast, unshackled from the cadence and content of the console and PC versions.
