TAMPA — A woman called 911 on Tuesday morning from the Palm Avenue Apartments, told the operator she shot someone, then hung up.

Officers later found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The man died at a nearby hospital, and now Tampa police are looking for the shooter, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Investigators arrived at the complex, located at 10610 N 30th St., around 10:25 a.m. There they found the wounded man. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to a news release.

Officers also searched an apartment within the complex where they believed a suspect in the shooting could have been hiding, the release said. They found no one, police said, but did find a weapon on the couch. Police did not clarify if the gun was used in the shooting.

Tampa police did not release the name of the person being sought in the case, nor say what led to the shooting. Detectives have launched a homicide investigation but do not believe the shooting was random.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.
