GHAZIABAD: A 20-year-old youth was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl in Khoda colony, police said. He, according to police, lives on the second floor of a building in the colony, while the girl is staying with her mother and two elder brothers on the ground floor.
Around 2pm on February 24, the youth called the girl to his house on the pretext of playing Ludo. During that time, the girl’s brothers had gone out for work. Also, her mother was not at home since February 21.
When her mother returned home on February 26, the girl told her that the man took her to his room for “playing Ludo” and raped her. He, according to the girl, also threatened her with dire consequences if she divulged it to anyone.
Mohammed Aslam, SHO of Khoda colony police station, told TOI that an FIR was lodged against the suspect under section of 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC and relevant sections of POCSO Act after they received a written complaint from the girl’s family on February 27. “The youth had fled the area, but was arrested on Monday from Ghaziabad,” Aslam said.
The suspect used to work as a labourer and was living in Khoda along with her sister and brother- in-law. At the time of the incident, both of them had gone out for work and taking the advantage of it, he took the girl home and raped her.
He was later produced in a court which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
