Umesh Yadav has an excellent record in India with 96 wickets in 28 Tests at an average of 24.54 and strike rate of 45.7. He is just four wickets shy of joining the 100-Club in India. If he achieves the feat in Ahmedabad he will become only the fifth Indian pacer to do so after Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma.

India vs England 2021: Umesh's 100 At Home, Axar's Returns in Debut Series & Kohli's Hundreds As Captain - Upcoming Records and Milestones

India will clash with England in the fourth and final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad from Thursday, the 4th of March. The home team needs to secure a draw not only to win the series but also confirm a berth alongside New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship at Lord’s in June. A number of records have been broken and milestones set during the course of the series with R Ashwin’s 400th Test wickets and Ishant Sharma making the 300-Club being the two that stand out.

India vs England: Virat Kohli Excels as India Test Captain But What’s His Legacy?

We look at some other records that can be surpassed in Motera during the next five days, some new milestones which can be set and a few other interesting numbers.

4: Umesh Yadav is just 4 wickets away from picking 100 wickets in India

Umesh Yadav has an excellent record in India with 96 wickets in 28 Tests at an average of 24.54 and strike rate of 45.7. He is just four wickets shy of joining the 100-Club in India. If he achieves the feat in Ahmedabad he will become only the fifth Indian pacer to do so after Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma. His average and strike rate, both, are the second-best for an Indian seamer at home after Mohammed Shami (min. 50 wickets at home).

2: Umesh Yadav is just 2 wickets shy of reaching 150 Test wickets

Umesh Yadav has picked 148 Test wickets in 48 matches at an average of 30.54 and strike rate of 51.4. He has been in menacing form with the red ball in the last four years picking 54% of his career wickets post 2017.

8: Wickets Needed by Archer to Reach 50 Test wickets

Jofra Archer has bagged 42 Test wickets in 13 matches at an average of 31.04 and strike rate of 62.1. His extra pace and bounce can trouble the Indian batsmen at Motera.

81.05: Rohit Sharma’s Batting Average in India

Rohit Sharma has a phenomenal record in India in Test cricket. He has aggregated 1621 runs in just 17 Tests at a stunning average of 81.05 in India. His exploits include 7 hundreds and 6 fifties which is an excellent conversion rate. Rohit’s average in India is the highest (min. 1000 runs) for an Indian batsman at home. Remarkably, it is the second-highest for any batsman at home in the history of Test cricket (min. 1000 runs) only after Don Bradman (98.22)!

It may not be a large enough sample but still that is a stunning show by Rohit at home.

India vs England: Joe Root Confirms Pitch for 4th Test Similar to Previous Matches, Wants Batsmen to be Brave

8: Anderson is just 8 wickets away from Equaling Kumble’s Record

James Anderson is the leading wicket-taker in the world with 611 wickets from 159 Test matches. He is just 8 wickets shy of equalling the record of Anil Kumble who had 619 wickets from 132 Tests. Anderson had produced a match-winning spell in the second innings of the series opener in Chennai getting rid of Shubman Gill, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant in quick succession – it was a brilliant spell of swing and reverse swing bowling! Although he went wicket-less in the Pink Ball Test, he is expected to return as a potent force with the red cherry when the fourth and final Test starts at Ahmedabad.

41: Number of International Test Hundreds As Captain for Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, the Indian captain has registered 41 international hundreds in-charge of the team. It is a joint world-record he holds with the great Australian, Ricky Ponting. But whereas King Kohli has achieved the feat in 191 matches, Ponting led in 324 matches and scored the same number of centuries. Kohli has a chance to overtake Ponting in Ahmedabad. The Indian captain has not scored an international hundred for a year and three months now. He last scored an international hundred in the Kolkata Test against Bangladesh which started on the 22nd of November, 2019. He did not score a hundred during the entire 2020.

18: Number of Wickets Axar Patel has Bagged in the Series

Axar Patel has been a revelation with the ball for India in what is, remarkably, his debut series in Test cricket. He has returned with 18 wickets in two Tests at an average of 9.44 and strike rate of 25.8 including three five-wickets in an innings and one ten-wicket haul in the match. It has been a dream start for the slow left-armer in Test cricket. In fact, he has a chance to make it the most successful debut series for an Indian bowler in Test cricket. Currently, Dilip Doshi (27), Shivlal Yadav (24), R. Ashwin (22) and Venkataraghavan (21) are placed above him on a list of highest wicket-takers from India in a debut series.

26: Number of Test Wins for Joe Root as Captain

Joe Root is the joint most successful Test captain of England in their illustrious history with 26 wins as skipper from 49 matches. He is tied with Michael Vaughan who also led England to 26 victories in 51 matches. Root can create history by winning in Ahmedabad!

2: India have not lost two Tests in a home series since 2012

India have not been beaten in two home Tests in a series since losing to England in Mumbai and Kolkata in 2012. Such has been India’s dominance at home in Test cricket.
