SHRC seeks report on electrocution of boy in Chennai

CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a news report about the electrocution of an eight-year-old boy at a public park near Tambaram and sought a detailed report from the director of town panchayats and chairman and managing director of Tangedco within two weeks.
According to the news report, V Gautham was the elder son of Varadhan and Nisha, residing at Sakthi Nagar housing board near Tambaram. Varadhan is a casual labourer.
On Tuesday evening, Gautham left home to play with his friends at a public park in Peerkankaranai town panchayat. He came in contact with a livewire protruding out of a lamp post and was electrocuted.
Parents, who searched for the boy as he had not returned home for a long time, found him unconscious in the park and moved him to a hospital with the help of neighbours, where he was declared brought dead. The body was moved to Chromepet government hospital for autopsy.
