Massive rescue op continues to trace girl drowned in Kupwara

Srinagar, Mar 3 (UNI) A massive rescue operation continued on Wednesday to trace a seven-year-old girl who was drowned in a water body in the frontier district of Kupwara on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said a minor girl identified as Humeera daughter of Mohammad Sabir, a resident of Bijnoor Uttar Pradesh (UP) was drowned in Pehroo Nallah at Maidan Chogal in Handwara in Kupwara when she was playing on the bank alongwith other children.

However, elders present in the area also jumped into the nallah but could not save her. Sabir is running a barbar shop in the area for the past eight years.

Later, a massive rescue operation was launched but she could not be recovered due to fast flow of water in the nallah. However, last night the operation was suspended only to be resumed this morning.

Army, SDRF, police and locals have joined the rescue operation, the said.
