In a bizarre incident, a woman in China ordered an Apple iPhone and ended up receiving an apple-flavoured drink instead. A woman named Liu in China reportedly received a bottle of apple-flavoured yogurt drink inside the box of an iPhone 12 Pro Max which she had ordered online. Liu had paid $1,500 for the new iPhone and had been waiting for its delivery when she received the package and was shocked to find the drink instead of the phone.

While such incidents are common when ordering things from third-party sellers like eBay or even Amazon, the woman claims she placed the order directly from Apple’s official website.

The bewildered Liu went on to upload a video of the incident on the Chinese social media site Weibo.

Since then, both Apple and Express Mail Service, the courier service company responsible for delivering the order, have stated that they are investigating the matter.

According to reports, the woman did not have the package delivered directly to her but instead had it delivered to a storage unit. As of now, it remains unclear where the theft may have taken place.

However, Weibo users have some theories. Global Times reported that some users speculated that the delivery person might have swiped the iPhone for a drink box. Others, including a cybersecurity expert, felt that it was possible that Liu had placed the order from a fake website.

The theft of iPhones is a fairly common incident. In November 2017, robbers hijacked a UPS truck full of iPhone X handsets worth $370k while it was on its way to an Apple Store in San Francisco.

In an incident that was similar to the one faced by Liu, a man in India ordered an iPhone 8 worth Rs 55,000 from the online shopping portal Flipkart in 2018. Instead, he ended up receiving a soap packed in an Apple box. Unlike Liu’s case, however, the Indian man had ordered the phone from a third party seller and not Apple’s own website as Liu claimed.
